Anybody may apply forIndividual and Family health insurance many times individual insurance is less expensive because it may not include maternity or other coverages. You typically need to be accepted (Medically underwritten) to get individual insurance. Most companies simply ask about your health history on the application and make a decision based on that. Some individual / Family insurance is guaranteed issue if you have exhausted your COBRA coverage but premiums may be much higher.
Please note: A Colorado law states that if you qualify for guaranteed issue small business insurance but elect to go with individual/Family coverage you may not qualify for guaranteed issue insurance until you've been with the same plan for 3 years.
